It’s thanks to this guy that Dan Gentle met his wife.
Back in the year 2000, CBH was on the hunt for a memorial to commemorate its grain terminal upgrade in Esperance, Western Australia.
One of its employees, Christy, was tasked with finding the artists, which led her to local sculptor Chris Siemer and her future husband, Dan Gentle.
“We got the job and I found a wife,” Dan said, laughing.
Over six months, Dan Gentle and Chris Seimer created this sculpture known as “The Lumper” — as he is lumping a bag of grain just as dockers once did.
He stood near the CBH office for 22 years, but was obscured from view following a road upgrade.
"The Lumper" has recently been relocated to near the Esperance Jetty.
